CAYSTON – (Aztreonam)

Cayston is an antibiotic used to treat chronic lung infections caused by the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa in patients 6 years of age and older with cystic fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis, also known as mucoviscidosis, is a life-threatening inherited disease that affects the mucous glands of internal organs, especially the lungs, but also the liver, pancreas, and digestive system. In the lungs, cystic fibrosis causes congestion with sticky mucus. This produces difficulty in breathing.
