LEUSENOX – (arsenic trioxide)

It is a drug used to treat acute promyelocytic leukemia that has a certain chromosome abnormality or fusion gene called PML/RARA. It is used with tretinoin in some newly diagnosed adults. It is used only in patients whose cancer has come back or has not improved after treatment with other anticancer drugs. Arsenic trioxide is also being studied in the treatment of other types of cancer. Arsenic trioxide damages a fusion protein that originates from the PML/RARA fusion gene. This may stop cancer cells from dividing and kill them.
